States of Guernsey
The States of Deliberation
The States of Deliberation is the legislature and government of Guernsey. The States meets every month throughout the year excluding school holidays. Normal meetings commence on a Wednesday and may last for three days. Special meetings commence on a Tuesday.
Official Report publication
The authoritative record of proceedings is known as the Official Report of the States of Deliberation (Hansard). It was first introduced in 2012. The States does not have its own Official Report staff. This task is outsourced. Draft reports are then edited by the Clerk Assistant with the Parliamentary Administration Officer prior to publication. The report is usually published within a month of the meeting concluding.
System of government
The States of Deliberation comprises 38 deputies elected in seven districts plus two representatives from Alderney’s Parliament, which is known as the States of Alderney. Guernsey’s system of government operates on a system based on consensus.
