Earlier this year, John Vice, former Editor of House of Lords Hansard, was presented with an OBE for services to Parliament. John Vice retired as Editor in December 2022. He joined Commons Hansard in 1987 and moved to the Lords in 2001, where he worked as a reporter, managing editor, deputy editor and, since 2013, Editor. Throughout his career, he was a passionate believer in the value and importance of Hansard and was fascinated by its history—indeed, he co-wrote the House of Lords Library publication “The History of Hansard”. As Editor, he guided the team through the upheavals of Covid, always taking a close interest in his colleagues’ well-being. He was also a great advocate of outreach, through BIPRA and as president of the Commonwealth Hansard Editors Association, in which role he offered guidance and support to official reports from many legislatures and developed a fruitful network of exchanges and visits. Many congratulations, John, from everyone at BIPRA.
